Obituary - Cllr Dr Haris P Livas-Dawes 1936-2019

When Haris moved to Easington she immersed herself with village life, joining various committees as well as a councillor on the Parish Council, where she worked on the Parish Plan, SHAPE, helped instigate a parish surgery at the coffee mornings and worked with the Withernsea and District Health Forum, fighting for services in the village. Along with this, both Haris and her husband Malcolm helped at the Church coffee afternoons.

One particular feat of dogged determination took place when the Village Post Office closed. Haris was instrumental in bringing back a part-time service to the Community Hall on a weekly basis. Her perseverance on this enables the residents to undertake the basic functions again in a central point.

Haris was a colourful character, whose sometimes-eccentric attire brightened up any occasion; she will be remembered fondly and missed by her friends, colleagues and the parish as a whole.

Our condolences to Malcolm.

Chair, Easington Parish Council

Cllr Dr Livas-Dawes is a member of the Heritage Alliance for rural issues. They have always been helpful to farmers, regarding the re-use, maintenance, and repair of farm buildings.  A consultation has now begun on these issues and If any farmers would like to take part in the consultation please feel free to contact the Heritage Alliance or Cllr Dr Livas-Dawes directly (see details under the Parish Council heading).

Last year members of the villages attended a first aid training session which was provided as part of the community funding grant from Eon.  Hazel Hunter-Steele from Thinktank Training Solutions showed new people the basics of first aid and also how to use the defibrillator which has also been bought with the Eon grant.  The unit will be housed on the wall of the Crown and Anchor at Kilnsea, thanks to Jean.  In the afternoon Hazel delivered a refresher session on use of the defibrillators for those previously trained and also showed the new unit to all.  The new unit can also be used, if needed on children and is located in Easington.

The Parish Council have been approached about providing more training sessions, the clerk is working with Withernsea Town Council to put on more and also lower the cost !

Please get in touch if you are wanting to see or learn how to use this live saving kit.
